Tutorial: FTP with FTP Voyager

Using FTP Voyager
When you launch FTP Voyager, you will be looking at the navigation console just like the one below. The top two panes are the navigation for the remote server (the place you are FTPing to). The middle two panes show your local drive. The bottom pane is where you can see the commands and errors for your session.

FTP Console
The top left pane will automatically bring up the path and directory structure of your account. You may be able to see the directory tree above where your directory is but you won't be able to access it. The top right pane will open up to your web directory on our servers.

Open up the folders in the two middle panes to browse to the directories you keep your web files in on your personal computer. You can use these panes just like Windows Explorer.

Uploading
To upload files from your computer to your account, set up your console like the example above. Have the directory that you wish to upload to in the top right pane and the directory you wish to upload from in the middle right pane.

Select the file you wish to upload in the middle right pane and:

  • Click on the "Upload" button on the taskbar, or
  • Right-click on the file and select "Upload" from the pop-up menu, or
  • Select "File>Put", or
  • Select "File>Upload", or
  • Use the shortcut "CTL-U", or
  • Just click and drag the file from pane to pane. You can also click and drag from your desktop or Windows Explorer.

To download files from your account to your computer, set up your console like in the previous example.

Select the file you wish to download in the top right pane and:

  • Click on the "Download" button on the taskbar, or
  • Right-click on the file and select "Download" from the pop-up menu, or
  • Select "File>Put", or
  • Select "File>Upload", or
  • Use the shortcut "CTL-D", or
  • Just click and drag the file from pane to pane or from Explorer.

Subdirectories
To create subdirectories within your web directory on your account:
  • Click on the "New Folder" button on the taskbar, or
  • Right-click in that directory and select "New Folder".
  • Select "File>New>Folder".

That's all there is to it! If you have any errors, they will be displayed in the pane at the bottom.
